Professor Maelstrom, Pony OC (sketch)

This is Maesltrom, a Pony OC of my own design created to commemorate the first anniversary of my joining the Brony fandom, and also the completion of my Projector Transcription book 7 (which is a fancy way of saying that I ran out of room in my seventh sketchbook XD ). He is a professor of history at the Royal College of Canterlot, specializing in international political history and the statecraft of Equestria during the thousand-year solitary rule of Princess Celestia. He has decided to pen his magnum opus, which title he has not yet decided on, and to do so he is going to take his sabbatical year somewhere quite and without distractions; one of his acquaintances, namely Fancy Pants, has suggested Ponyville. He has read of Ponyville in a recent article by the celebrated author Trenderhoof, and has just arrived at Ponyville station to check the town out.

His Cutie Mark represents a whirlpool of knowledge; his talent is combining small details and bits of fact and combining them into a coherent, comprehensive whole. He uses this talent in studying his chosen subject, history, but he can apply it to other fields of knowledge as well. He was once considered for the position of the Royal Librarian, but his overly demanding behavior towards subordinates and his quick temper meant that he was ill-advised for such a public position, so Her Majesties' Government chose another pony instead. While his academic achievements are undeniable, his personality is far from perfect; he is perfectionist to a fault, he is rather hard to impress, and is not that an effective teacher (he tends to drone on endlessly). Perhaps the lively air of Ponyville and its denizens could change him for the better.
